Central Market of Florence comes to Rome: among the shops full of Made in Italy there will also be a space for events

The Mercato Centrale Firenze has arrived in the Capital, and precisely inside Termini Station, which has long undergone various restorations. Mercato Centrale, opened in Florence in 2014, is a project created by Umberto Montano, a restaurant businessman, who has, for over forty years, worked with high quality food, together with the ECVacanze group by Claudio Cardini, active in the camping sector and open air tourism. And, just as in Florence, even in Rome it proposes a model that has food at the center as a cultural event, made of shops, craftsmen, but also spaces for meetings.

The location – just a little under 2,000 metres squared – spread on different floors and the project was curated by the study of Q-bic of Florence by the brothers Luca Baldini (architect) and Marco Baldini (artist/designer). The environment is simple and informal, a table on which to eat, discover, talk, relate to each other. The hall hosts the 16 shops and tables to sit, protected by the Cappa Mazzoniana, the architecture designed by Angiolo Mazzoni during the 1930s, whereas on the first floor there is also a restaurant with open view kitchen, managed by the starred chef Oliver Glowing.

On the last level, finally, there a space to host cultural events and presentations with 150 places – preferring cinema and theatre setting – considering the vocation of the Mercato Centrale in promoting the synergies and collaborations with the local authorities. The Mercato Centrale Roma is open every day from 7 am to midnight. “The ambition is to make this “market” become a destination for the city”, declared Umberto Montano.
