Roma Fiumicino is confirmed as entrance in Italy from the East, thanks to the dedicated services to Asian passengers that are acknowledged by the Welcome Chinese certification. The airport has received the certification at the TTG Incontri 2016: a confirmation for the investment that the airport of Fiumicino is sustaining on the Asian and Chinese market.
The Leonardo da Vinci holds, in fact, an important record in Europe, together with the hubs of Paris and Frankfurt, for the number of cities directly connected with Greater China – Pecking, Xi’an, Chongqing, Haikou, Wuhan, Canton, Shanghai, Wenzhou, Hong Kong, Taipei. These are 10 great destinations that can be reached from the Leonardo da Vinci, with seven airlines – Alitalia, Air China, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern and Hainan Airlines. In 2015 over 500,000 Chinese passengers landed or departed from the hub of Capital. The prediction for the conclusion of 2016 considers higher numbers, with 650,000 visitors expected, growing by +30% compared to last year. Traffic volumes destined to increase further, thanks also to important agreements active with Chinese airports and airlines, recently obtained by the company that manages the airport, in the cities of Canton and Chengdu. The aim is that of strengthening the role of ADR as main player of Italian reference for the Chinese market and start new and more Chinese flights to and from Fiumicino.
The Gold level of Welcome Chinese includes promotional activity for the airport to be developed on the Asian market, to incentivate both tour operators as well as the single passengers to use the hub of Fiumicino when planning travel, both for leisure as well as corporate. The projects dedicated to the B2B segment are also many, among which a partnership with Union Pay, a payment system that is very diffused in China and with the national television CCTV, that has a channel dedicated exclusively to travellers. Initiatives that add to those already active for Chinese-Mandarin speaking passengers at Fiumicino, such as information and commercial signage in their language, the website and its mobile version offered in Chinese language; the availability of free warm water in the catering areas of the airport and the Shopping Helper service that has ADR staff to give assistance, in the Chinese language, on the brands available in the rich mall of the hub.
