Florence Convention Bureau launches Destination Florence: the city aims at quality incoming

It is called Destination Florence and it is the new site created by the Local Council and the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau to promote the Tuscan city in the world. A portal, that has been recently presented at Palazzo Vecchio by the mayor Dario Nardella, aiming to monitor tourist flux, diversify the offer for visitors, improve strategies for the promotion of the city. 

Declared objective of the site is that of contrasting “bite and go” tourism, favouring instead a quality incoming, with travellers who stay in the city for more days. In its intentions, Destination Florence – that fights on the same level with giants of web booking – will have to “increase the number of tourists with a high spending capacity, the average stay, widen and diversify the offer, strengthen Florence’s image in the world, monitor presences and the behaviours of tourists”, explain the promoters. The management of the portal depends also on Travel Appeal, a company that collects and analyses the perception, communication and reputation data of hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, museums, transportation, events. On Destination Florence one can buy tickets for museums, theatres, concerts, sports events, book taxis, chauffeur driven cars, plane and train tickets, guided tours, tourist guide services and packages.

As reported by Firenze Today, already existing platforms will be used and grouped together within the portal, even sharing with firenzeturismo.it and turismo.intoscana.it. “A unique project in Italy”, declared the Mayor Nardella, “to challenge the great players of online tourist sales and make available concrete actions against a “bite and go” tourism and a strong over pricing of museum tickets at the expense of the many visitors. We aim at improving the tourist offer of the city, relieving the flows in the historic centre, promoting and selling designations that belong to the local and metropolitan territory. It is the challenge that all art cities should launch.”
