Florence wins over London and Bucharest: in the city the International No Dig 2019

An important achievement for Florence, that gains the International No Dig Conference in 2019, the international convention that deals with technologies with a reduced environmental impact. The decision has arrived from the annual assembly of the International Society for Trenchless Technology (Istt) that met in Pecking in occasion of its annual No Dig. Apart from Florence, the other candidate cities for the event were London and Bucarest.

The 37th edition of the International Convention ISTT (International Society for Trenchless Technology) No-Dig will be held in the Firenze Fiera exhibition spaces, inside the sixteenth century Fortezza da Basso, where about 2,600 metres squared of exhibition space will be set up with machinery for the laying of infrastructures beneath the earth surface. At the congress there will be about 500 experts of the sector coming from all over the world. The No-Dig technologies allow to intervene beneath the earth’s surface to lay pipes and cables without recurring to digging in open air thus avoiding the alteration of surface and eliminating heavy and negative impacts on the environment, on the community and on the landscape.

“After 12 years the international congress ISTT returns to Italy and Florence is proud to host such an important event, where the themes of innovation and development of new technologies are oriented to improve environment sustainability and the quality of life of the citizens”, said the Mayor Dario Nardella, “two challenges on which the green politics of our administration are based. The use of No-Dig intervention techniques can be the reply to the need that is much felt by everyone of overcoming the inconvenience caused by construction sites: using these technologies it is possible, in fact, to work under the surface of the earth without having to dig and all this can bring many benefits to our cities and citizens, from the reduction of heavy inconveniences caused by the works to the interference on traffic, considering that almost all of the network services, such as water, gas, electricity and telecommunications, to mention a few examples, develop underground. With this important event which will be held at Fortezza da Basso, Florence confirms itself as an appreciated location on an international level and as the ideal place to unite history to innovation.”

The Congress has been in Italy the last time in 2007 and will be back in 2019 thanks to the synergy of the works in the candidature phase of IATT (Italian Association for Trenchless Technology), Convention Bureau of Florence, Firenze Fiera, Tecnoconference TC Group and OIC Group.  The  Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau represented the destination during the Congress of Pecking in October during the general assembly of the national Associations confederated to ISTT who chose Florence as preferred choice with respect to London.
