Italy, the cultural locations are sold out with visitors. Rome is on top of the preferences

Italian beauties create a business of 172 million Euros. This is the amount of registered income from Italian culture locations during 2016. This information was made known by the Ministry of Culture and Cultural activities and Tourism.

“The data of 2016 – said Minister Dario Franceschini – set a new record for Italian museums. 44.5 million entrances in public cultural places have generated a turnover for over 172 million Euros, with an increase of 4% and 12% respectively compared to 2015 equal to 1.2 million visitors more and greater income for 18.5 million Euros. The strongest player – added Franceschini – is definitely our archaeological heritage, considering that at the Colosseum, Foro Romano, Palatino, Archaeological Museum of Naples, Archaeological park of Paestum and Pompei during the past year about 11 million tickets were sold. However even museums have an important role, since about half of the entrances are concentrated on independent museums.”

The list of most popular cultural locations, therefore, has no surprises: on top of the hit there is the Pantheon with about 7.4 million tickets sold. Followed by the Colosseum, the Foro Romano and Palatino with 6.4 million visitors. Pompei confirms to be an authentic attraction for Italian and foreign visitors and had about 3.3 million visitors during 2016. The Galleria degli Uffizi of Florence surpasses two million tickets, whereas the Egyptian Museum of Turin attracted 705 million visitors last year, a little less than 2015. The absolute success was for Palazzo Ducale of Mantua with about 130 thousand visitors more (from 243 thousand to 367 thousand) escalates eleven positions in the list.

As far as  Regions are concerned, the favourite for the visitors are Lazio and Campania: their cultural sites have received about 27 million tourists. Lazio, headed by Rome, registers a boom of visits that touches twenty million. Eight million for Campania, 6.3 million for Tuscany and yet another good performance for Lombardy, which registers an increase of visits by 8.3% compared to the previous year.
