The hotel group Marriott has completed the acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, creating the largest hotel group in the world. The new group will manage over 5,700 facilities and 1.1 million rooms, representing 30 leading brands of medium and average level in 110 Countries.
“We are aware that, by becoming the largest company of hotel management in the world, we have the responsibility of offering the best hospitality”, declared J.W. Marriott Jr, Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Marriott International. “We now consider that Marriott has the best portfolio of hotels in the world, the most capillary global distribution and the most conveniente loyalty programmes”, added Arne Sorenson, Chairman and CEO Marriott International.
In a letter sent to the clients, Sorensen gives further details on the operation: “With the legal conclusion of the acquisition, we would like to unite and consolidate the best that our organisations can offer, to create a company of excellence, leader in the touristic sector. Today we can offer the possibility of booking from a portfolio of 30 brands. Moreover, we are preparing the base to unify our strong loyalty programmes so as to allow members to connect their account Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG), to obtain a the same status for Rewards and SPG and to transfer points between programmes to use in their combined portfolio. We want to guarantee to all clients a simple and fast transaction.”
