Milan, debut of Microsoft House: a space open to the city with a loft for events

An open and integrated space with its external environment in the heart of Milan, in the area of Porta Volta, designed to host those who arrive, from clients of the company, to professionals to the student, and reflect on the value of open innovation: thus is conceived the Microsoft House, the new office of the Redmond company that opens next to the Feltrinelli Foundation, in the first Italian building designed by Herzog and De Meuron.

“We wanted to break away from the concept of inside-outside, create a constant flux with the city, to get out of a closed office that could be repulsive, inspired by the project of the Feltrinelli Foundation, with which we are in love”, explained the CEO of Microsoft Italia Carlo Purassanta, to Askanews. A project that has meant an investment of 10 million Euros for the building and transfer of the offices plus a further 10 million yearly to be spent in direct costs and other activities. The Microsoft House, with 832 windows, is developed on 6 floors above ground, 3 of which are open on to the city.

The ground floor hosts the Showroom, dedicated to the great public and made in collaboration with Intel: it is open 7 day a week to try out the Microsoft technologies and its solutions for its partners, apart from all the gaming fans, with Xbox stations and Windows 10 devices. In the Digital Class students and teachers can also discover and experiment new teaching frontiers and can promote the spreading of digital culture. The Microsoft Technology Center, on the first floor, is designed to be a space for sharing to live with companies, startups, professionals, innovation scenarios licensed by Microsoft and Intel, and to help them understand how technology can generate concrete business advantages.

On the fifth floor there is The Loft, designed to host events and business moments. From the second to the fifth floor there are reserved areas for employees and collaborators. The aim of Microsoft House is to host in 2017 over 200 thousand visitors, 10 thousand professionals, 4 thousand students, and a thousand heads of schools making available technology, competence, formation and occasions for exchange.
